How to get aware
July may be just the best time for a holiday in LA, california! What? Yes because of summer heat museums are the best places to be. So we went to MOCA (Museum of contemporary art) last night to enjoy art and as surprise the third room was dedicated only to Mark Rothko only. What a beautiful surprise not only because of many closed rooms in this small museum in downtown LA.
The MOCA Museum is dedicated to art from 1940 to present and it´s permament collection contains works of abstract expressionism and pop art including work by Warhol, Pollock and of course Rothko. Free entrance on thursdays from 5-8 pm. Otherwise you pay 10$ (adults), 5$ for students & seniors.
For me as a color awareness painter it was sad to see how fast und unaware most of the visitors went by checking their smartphones, taking pictures and running to the next room. More than 50 years ago Rothko´s wish to stand right before his pictures just to get part of it´s colors seems no longer to exist. But at least there where to people diving deep into this beautiful color field paintings…and maybe that´s by far enough – time will tell
